Is Dulquer the new Angry Young Man?

July 19, 2014 16:00 IST

Dulquer SalmaanOkay, so he is only a few films old and it is not fair to label him.

But one look at hero Dulquer Salmaan and one wonders, isn’t he playing the Angry Young Man roles a bit too often?

Of course, the viewers seem to like him in such roles as well.

When he could have gone for a high profile launch as superstar Mammootty’s son, Dulquer went for Second Show, made by a group of youngsters. He played a local gangster in the film.

In the ill-fated Theevram and last year’s hit Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, he played confident young men.

In between, Dulquer found success as a dreamy youngster in Ustad Hotel and ABCD. He tried to become a romantic hero with films like Pattam Pole, Salala Mobiles and Samsaram Arogyathinu Hanikaram. But the films turned out to be duds.

Then he bounced back with the super success of Bangalore Days, in which he played a tough nut, who is crazy about bikes.

Now, in the forthcoming Vikramadityan, he plays a street-smart youth from Kochi.

Dulquer is keen not to get into the comfort zone and is trying to experiment with varying roles.

He has now completed Njan, which is a period film.
