Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan can heave a sigh of relief now that Samrajyam 2: Son of Alexander has finally reached the theatres after much delay, controversies and confusions.

The sequel to the Mammootty starrer Samrajyam was delayed due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from the announcement of the hero, to financial issues and claims regarding the authorship of the story.

Unni Mukundan admits that this has affected him, but he has moved on and is pinning his hopes on K L 10 Pathu, and is excited to be shooting for director Binu S’s new project, Style.

The young hero discusses this and other matters in this candid chat with Vijay George.

Do you regret doing Samrajyam 2: Son of Alexander?

I don’t regret doing the film. If there is some regret, it is not about doing the project but about joining hands with the wrong people.

Everybody talked highly about the project, but it is what happened next that has been the concern.

I consider it my immaturity as a person and not as an actor, for not being able to identify the right people. I will have to live with this burden my entire life as an actor.

A really good movie from the past has been messed up like this.

But are you happy that Samrajyam 2 was finally released?

I am happy that the movie was released eventually. For three years I have been answering questions about a film in which I ami have just 18 minutes of screen time. I have no idea how things reached this stage.

What difference did Vikramadityan make to your career?

I am eternally grateful to Lal Jose for resurrecting my career with Vikramadityan.

He gave me confidence and strength at a time when I was going through a lot of tension.

What is your role in K L 10 Pathu like?

I play a journalist named Ahmed. The movie is set in Malappuram. It was a fantastic experience speaking in the local slang.

You are also acting in Style, directed by Ithihasa director Binu S?

We had planned a film earlier, even before Ithihasa happened.

I am thrilled that Binu S offered me Style, when he could have approached any other actor, after such a successful film.

In Style I play a car mechanic, who is an expert in styling cars.

What are your future projects?

I will be doing Jos Thomas’s next film. And there is another big announcement, which will happen soon (smiles).
