The Gandhi Jayanti holiday is considered to be quite lucrative for movie releases in theatres.
Last year saw the release of the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer War, which turned out to be a huge blockbuster, earning more than Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion).
A lot of films were planned for this year too, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed all that.
Still, OTT has come to the rescue, and there are three films and a Web series premiering on October 2.
Joginder Tuteja lists them for us:
Khaali Peeli
Zee Plex, ZEE5 and Drive-in theatres (Gurgaon, Bengaluru)
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release in June, Khaali Peeli will release on October 2.
It will be the first mainstream release to see a pay-per-view release on Zee Plex.
It would be quite interesting to see how audiences pay to watch a movie from the comfort of their home.
What makes it further special is that the film will also be actually the first 'big screen' release since Angrezi Medium in March. Of course, only the audiences in Gurgaon and Bengaluru would benefit from it, as a couple of drive-in theatres will screen the film.
Produced by Ali Abbas Zafar and directed by Maqbool Khan, the thriller will be special for its actors, Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey.
Ishaan returns after delivering a hit in Karan Johar's production Dhadak while Ananya returns from the hit, Pati Patni Aur Woh.
Nishabdham
Amazon Prime Video
Nishabdham was to release in theatres in April.
Starring Anushka Shetty and R Madhavan, the film promises to be a riveting thriller.
The cast also includes Anjali, Michael Madsen, Shalini Pandey and Subbaraju.
Shot entirely in Seattle, the film is directed by Hemant Madhukar, who had made his debut as a director with the Hindi horror film, A Flat, starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Sanjay Suri.
A bilingual made in Telugu and Tamil, the film will also see a Malayalam dubbed version release.
Serious Men
Netflix
Based on the book by the same name, Serious Men was originally made for the OTT medium.
A Netflix original, this one is spearheaded by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has had a long running relationship with the OTT platform, thanks to Sacred Games and Raat Akeli Hai.
Sudhir Mishra, who recently gave us Hostages 2, has directed this film, based on Manu Joseph's novel.
The film boasts of a unique storyline of a man, who spins a tale about his 10-year-old son being a mathematical genius.
Serious Men also stars Indira Tiwari, Aakshath Das, Nassar, Sanjay Narvekar and Shweta Basu Prasad.
Expiry Date
ZEE5
Remember the man who played Taapsee Pannu's secret boyfriend in Badla?
Well, Tony Luke is now leading the charge in the Web series Expiry Date.
He is joined by Sneha Ullal of Lucky - No Time for Love fame, Madhu Shalini, who was seen in Ram Gopal Varma's Department and Bhoot Returns and Hollywood actor Ali Reza.
A film about an extra marital relationship going wrong, Expiry Date is a 10-episode thriller series that will release in Hindi and Telugu.
The series is directed by Shankar K Marthand.
