Reshammiya wears a burkha!

June 27, 2007 16:17 IST

Himesh Reshammiya seems to be getting into more and more controversies of late.

The latest is that he visited the holy tomb of Khawja Moinuddhin Chishti in Ajmer by wearing a burkha. He apologised for this later.

Reshammiya, along with four others, came for ziyarat (pilgrimage) on Tuesday night and in order to avoid attention, he wore a burkha. Later, when people realised that he was wearing a burkha in the dargah, they objected to it.

However, Anjuman Committee, the official committee of the dargah khadims (servers) gave a clean chit to Reshammiya saying that the singer had not committed any offence by offering ziyarat in a burkha.

"Burkha is a respectable dress and there was no need for the singer to express his regret and tender apology," Khadim said.

The spokesman of the Anjuman committee and former secretary Sarwar Chisti added, "Since he is a popular artiste and wore a burkha to avoid the crowd, he has not committed any offence or sin."

The nazim of dargah committee, Ahamed Raza, also said that the singer had not committed any offence.

Reshammiya told the media that a dargah khadim Qutubuddhin Saki had advised him to wear a burkha. "If I have committed any mistake, I apologise for that," he told reporters.

He had come to the holy tomb to seek blessings for the success for his acting debut, Aap Kaa Surroor, which releases on June 29.
