After impressing with his cop act in Mumbai Saga, Emraan Hashmi returns to his favourite genre -- the suspense thriller -- with Chehre.

Ever since he made his debut with Footpath in 2003, Emraan has worked in quite a few suspense thrillers with success.

Joginder Tuteja looks at just how well thrillers have worked for the actor.

Raaz 3
Box office collection: Rs 73 crore

Raaz 3 sits right at the top of the heap.

When it released in 2012, Emraan was scoring quite a few hits across genres (The Dirty Picture, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai).

This suspense thriller had a liberal dose of horror and sensual elements, and Emraan scored a blockbuster with Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta.

Murder 2
Box office collection: Rs 48 crore

Murder 2 was a dark, haunting thriller, co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez.

A psychological thriller, Emraan impressed in this 2011 film.

Ek Thi Daayan
Box office collection: Rs 35 crore

A suspense thriller with a liberal dose of horror, Ek Thi Daayan saw Emraan team up with Producer Ekta Kapoor.

Konkona Sen Sharma, Hum Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin were his leading ladies and the film was a success.

Raaz Reboot
Box office collection: Rs 30 crore

The last in the Raaz franchise, Kriti Kharbanda made her Bollywood debut with this suspense thriller with a horror element.

This was the time when the Bhatts seemed to be running out of ideas and were trying to simply run the franchises at their disposal.

Raaz Reboot could not sustain itself at the box office.

Raaz: The Mystery Continues
Box office collection: Rs 25 crore

When Raaz: The Mystery Continuesreleased in 2009, it found itself in the middle of a few controversies.

After all, it was one of the few instances when a leading lady swore on screen -- Kangana Ranaut did that as Jackie Shroff's 'aatma' had possessed her.

Emraan made a successful entry into this franchise that was started by Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea.

Murder
Box office collection: Rs 15 crore

He came, he kissed and he conquered.

But Murder was much more than an erotic love story. It had a lot of suspense and interesting twists too.

The thriller co-starred Mallika Sherawat and Ashmit Patel along with Emraan Hashmi.

Aksar
Box office collection: Rs 8.58 crore

While Himesh Reshammiya's Jhalak Dikhla Ja song was infectious enough to bring the audiences to the theatres, the kind of thrills that unfolded in this Ananth Mahadevan directorial were good enough to keep them engaged right through.

Emraan clearly had loads of fun doing this film, which had Udita Goswami and Dino Morea.

Zeher
Box office collection: Rs 7 crore

Emraan had formed a 'jodi' with Udita Goswami after they had delivered a success with Zeher.

Directed by Mohit Suri (who went on to marry Udita), the film was a suspense thriller with a heavy dose of romance and erotica.

Shamita Shetty had a strong role as well, but it was Emraan who went on to enjoy a longer career in Bollywood.

Chocolate
Box office collection: Rs 7 crore

One of the most under-rated thrillers in Bollywood, Chocolate was directed by Vivek Agnihotri years before he found himself in the news with The Tashkent Files.

Though it had a hint of The Usual Suspects in its plot, this was an exciting thriller in which Emraan shared the stage with Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Tanushree Dutta.

The Body
Box office collection: Rs 3.44 crore

Emraan's most recent hardcore suspense thriller was The Body.

This is also Rishi Kapoor's last big screen release.

The film kept audiences engaged with the proceedings but the last 15 minutes turned out to be way too convenient with several cinematic liberties thrown in, and that diluted the overall impact.
