Has Sunil Grover made an unceremonious exit from Comedy Nights With Kapil?
The comedian-actor, who plays the hugely popular character Gutthi on the show produced and hosted by Kapil Sharma, has reportedly walked out of the show following ego clashes with Sharma.
However, Grover denies having had any problems with his costar.
"Kapil is a dear friend and an absolute delight to work with. I have absolutely no problems with him. My contract with the show was over and I had to leave the show due to prior commitments," he clarified.
While Grover cites his own reasons for his exit, sources close to the popular show have a different story to tell.
"A lot of people associated with the show didn't like the fact that Sunil’s Gutthi act had become the show’s
USP. Subsequently, there was a lot of interference in the way he projected himself in the show. Grover began to feel stifled.
"Rather than stay on in a situation that was growing increasingly difficult, he chose to walk out," the source claims.
Another associate of Sunil Grover said, "Vested interests are spreading the rumour that Sunil left the show due to monetary issues. Considering the popularity of his character, Sunil apparently demanded more money, which is complete hogwash. Sunil loves his character Gutthi and intends to take her forward."
While the two parties wait for the dust to settle on this disagreement, word is that Sunil Grover has been offered his own comedy show on a rival channel.
