First Look: Kamal Haasan's Papanasam

May 13, 2015 09:05 IST

The superstar will be seen in the remake of Malayalam hit film Drishyam.

Malaylam film Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph, with Mohanlal, Meena and Asha Sarath in leading roles, was one of the most successful films in the history of Malayalam cinema.

At a time when films don’t even run for 25 or 50 days, this thriller ran for 100 days in Kerala.

Though the remake rights of the film were sold in all the south Indian languages and also in Hindi, Jeethu Joseph opted to direct only the Tamil version, Papanasam, because Kamal Haasan plays the lead role of the lower middle-class cable operator.

Kamal Haasan’s real life partner Gauthami comes back to acting after many years as his wife in the film.

After the lacklustre showing of Uttama Villain, the question is, will Papanasam recreate the magic of Drishyam in Tamil?

Kamal Haasan's croons a rock song

Superstar Kamal Haasan has sung a rock number for the upcoming film Avam directed by debutant Vijay Vilvakrish.

The music is composed by Sundaramurthy K S and the lyrics are written by Madhan Karky for the film Avam.

The film is about life of urban youth and the troubles they bring upon themselves.

If you are wondering why Kamal has sung for an unknown music director, the reason is that it’s a favour to the father of the music director who has been associated with Raj Kamal films as the poster designer.

Haasan’s eleder daughter and actress Shruti Haasan is an established playback singer.
