Sanjay-Manyata's wedding woes continue

Last updated on: April 07, 2008 19:29 IST

In a reprieve for Sanjay Dutt and his wife Manyata, a Bandra sessions' court stayed the summons issued to them. The magistrate decided on the stay on a plea challenging their marriage.

The summons, seeking their appearance in the court, was issued after Meraj Rehman Shaikh alleged that he was Manyata's husband. He claimed in the petition that his marriage with Manyata was still valid and that her wedding to Sanjay was illegal and void.

The magistrate observed some substance in Meraj's complaint and asked Sanjay and Manyata to appear before the court on April 15.

Manyata

moved the sessions' court, seeking stay to the summons and quashing off the criminal case filed against her and Sanjay. The sessions' court fixed April 23 as the next date for hearing and stayed the proceedings.

"The matter will now be heard in the sessions' court," Manyata's lawyer Rizwan Shaikh said.
