Toxic singer Britney Spears has landed seven nominations at this year's Video Music Awards, including the top category for Video of the Year.
But a number of industry insiders are questioning if she does really deserve the huge nominations she got for her one and only music video this year, Womanizer.
'We were surprised she got so many nominations because she has been 'lip synching' and while she is talented, the terrain has changed so this may be sympathy nominations because she is getting well,' Fox News quoted a key industry insider as saying.
'Every network is hurting for eyeballs. Britney always draws an audience,' the insider said.
Last year Spears had upped the ratings for VMA, with the viewer ship up 41 percent from two years prior, with her hyped 'comeback'.
Spears rep did not respond for comment and it remains unclear as to whether the singer will present or perform at the uber-hyped awards show, which will take place in New York City on September 13.
