Cameron Diaz to take up farming?

July 23, 2010 15:26 IST

On Thursday night, two of Hollywood's biggest stars, Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise, hit the streets of London for the UK premiere of their new movie, Knight and Day.

And though they're no longer youngsters -- like when they last starred together, a decade ago, in Vanilla Sky -- the pair looked ravishing on the red carpet at the famed Leicester Square. Cool, casual, sexy!

But, what's this, 37-year-old Cameron is planning on leaving the lime light? While doing the pre-release media blitz for Knight and Day, Diaz reportedly told the UK Telegraph that she wants to take a year off from acting to live on a farm!

'I don't want to say I've seen it all because this world is so vast, but I've always been on the move and what I'd love to do is spend a whole year in one place, actually on a farm, where I get to raise my own crops and my own livestock and for once in my life see just how life is cultivated," she said.

'It's almost like this primal thing. I really just feel like the earth is where we all come from and we have nothing if we don't have soil and water and sun. I've read a lot about agriculture and I feel the need inside me to work with the earth in some way. I guess it would be like a painter having to paint.'

Hmmm...Interesting.

In Knight and Day, Diaz plays June Havers, a woman who gets sucked into the world of Roy Miller (Cruise), an international spy who believes he's been set-up.

Directed by James Mangold, the film has been receiving mixed reviews. But critics are almost unanimous in their praise for the comedic chemistry between its two famous stars.

'Every day we just went in and had a laugh. We wanted to make a movie that people would have fun at and we had fun doing. When you do a film where you want the audience to be laughing and you spend a lot of your time laughing while making it, then you know it's going to be genuine,' Diaz told the Guardian.

Meanwhile, earlier this month Cruise sent a message to his Indian fans via microblogging site Twitter. "A huge THANK YOU to the wonderful people of India for their birthday wishes and kindness...I'll 'see' you at the movies Friday," he wrote, referring to Knight and Day's July 9 India release.
