The Goa unit of a Hindu organisation has demanded a ban on the release of Slumdog Millionaire, saying the award-winning film hurts the religious sentiments of the majority community.
Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) will approach various governments, including that in Goa, insisting the movie should not be released, Jayesh Thali, state spokesman of the group, told PTI in Panaji on Thursday. There were a few scenes in the movie that denigrated Lord Ram, he alleged.
Thali said a HJS delegation had met Central Board of Film Certification officials in Mumbai, demanding a ban on the film which is slated for release on Friday. Slumdog Millionaire, which tells the rags-to-riches tale of an orphan from a Mumbai slum, won four Golden Globe awards, including one for music composer A R Rahman.
