Box Office: Bharat continues to rule

After five days, Bharat continues to get a good response from the box office. Even the India-Australia cricket match on Sunday did not affect the film's collections.

Yet, the film has a long way to go before it recoups its investment. 

Vinod Mirani gives us his weekly verdict.

 

 

Bharat

Cast: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover.
Director: Ali Abbas Zafar.
What works: Sunil Grover scores a few laughs.
What doesn't: Dull. Overlong. Manipulative. Poor characterisations. Ends up mocking its own ambitions.
Number of weeks: New.
Box Office verdict: Good opening.

 

India's Most Wanted

Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Jitendra Shastri, Rajesh Sharma.
Director: Raj Kumar Gupta.
What works: Realistic story.
What doesn't: Staggeringly dull film.
Number of weeks: 2.
Box Office verdict: Below average.

 

PM Narendra Modi

Cast: Vivek Anand Oberoi, Boman Irani, Zarina Wahab, Kishore Shahane, Manoj Joshi.
Director: Omung Kumar.
What works: Nicely shot. Some scenes are engaging.

What doesn't: Tampers with historical facts, incoherent storyline.
Number of weeks: 2.
Box Office verdict: Below average.

 

De De Pyaar De

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Rakul Preet Singh.
Director: Akiv Ali.
What works: Tabu.
What doesn't: Recycled, poorly-written film, makes a mockery of the modern family.
Number of weeks: 3.
Box Office verdict: Average.

 

Student Of The Year 2

Cast: Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Panday, Aditya Seal, Samir Soni, Manoj Pahwa, Farida Jalal, Abhishek Bajaj.
Director: Punit Malhotra.
What works: Cinematography, music and production quality.
What doesn't: The film's narration, lead actors, direction.

Box Office verdict: Below average.

Director: Abhishek Varman.
What works: Beautiful sets, rich costumes, quite a spectacle on the big screen.
What doesn't: Story does not make sense nor does it make an impact.

Box Office verdict: Below average.
