Pulitzer prize for Bob Dylan

April 08, 2008 18:00 IST

American singer songwriter Bob Dylan has become the first rocker to be honoured with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize.

The 66-year-old, who has the skills of an author, musician and poet, was given the prize for his song-writing prowess, reports Contactmusic.

The honorary Pulitzer, which was given to him on April 7, was for his 'profound impact on popular music and American culture.'

This is the first time the Pulitzer judges have honoured a rock star, and Dylan's name will be marked as having been the first to receive it.

In the past, musical accolades have been given to classical music and jazz artists only.
