Bangalore makes a Hindi movie

Swaroop Kanchi, the Bangalore-based film-maker who made Bengaloored, an Indie English film (crossover film) is ready with his first Hindi film titled Yeh Dil Ramta Jogi.

The film releases on Friday, March 14.

Kanchi directs and for the first time plays a leading role in Yeh Dil Ramta Jogi. He has also composed the music for the film.

He had made an appearance as a monk in Bengaloored. The film was voted the second best Indie feature out of India in recent times.

Yeh Dil Ramta Jogi, which is produced by Tapas Films, is about a taxi driver Kalidas, who is something of a dreamer.

Says Kanchi who plays the protagonist’s role, “Kaalidas lives his mundane life by enjoying the air of an alternate universe of his dreams where love, wealth and acceptance are within reach, and joy is just around the corner.”

He taxi driver dreams of success, fame and money and above all a purpose to live, says Kanchi. “Taxi drivers often dream of finding acceptance and love in society and that is what the film is all about,”

he says.

Swaroop Kanchi is the son of veteran Kannada actor of yesteryears Saikumar. He made his first low budget Indie English film titled Black Sugar about a decade ago which premiered at the New York Film Festival.

In 2007, Kanchi directed the feature film Hong Kong Dreaming which premiered at the UK International Film Festival. He next made Bengaloored, which had a theatrical release all over India.

The film was about a writer who returns to Bangalore after 10 years only to see that everything has changed including his world.

Yeh Dil Ramta Jogi, Kanchi’s first film in Hindi to have a wide theatrical release across India, stars Cajole Kapoor in the role of a waitress and Rageshwari.

Adarsh Kaginale plays the second male lead in the film. Guruprasad is the cinematographer.

According to Kanchi, the film will be released in multiplexes across India in phases.

In the first phase on March 14, the film will open in Karnataka, Punjab and Bengal.

In the second phase next week, the film will release in UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Tamil Nadu.
