Anoop Desai out of American idol

Anoop Desai, who was among the last three of the remaining seven contestants in the hugely popular show American Idol, finally got the boot on Wednesday night. It was a double elimination night for the seven singers.

The second Indian American to join the contest, which is watched by 25-30 million viewers per week, Anoop was considered by many to have more potential than previous season's contestant Sanjaya Malakar.

Despite being sent home, he will get a chance to tour with the other singers who made it to the final 10, in nearly 50 cities across America this summer. Anoop is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina and is very serious about pursuing a career in music.

Over 45 million votes, the highest this season, were cast in favour of the various participants after last night's performances.
