In his 35-year-old career, Anil Kapoor has never played a Sardar in a full-fledged role. The only time he did was in a song in David Dhawan's big hit Biwi No 1.
Now, the actor will play Sikh in his next film, Mubaraka.
"It would be an honour to play a Sardarji," Anil says. "I have a fabulous role in Mubaraka. I go into this film right after I complete the shooting of my television serial 24. Mubaraka would be the ideal stress-buster after the intense action and drama in 24."
Anil has great regard for the film's director Anees Bazmee.
"He has made some of the biggest hits in the comedy genre without resorting to vulgar double meanings. Mubaraka is also completely free of any crudity, and that’s what I love about it. It has one of the most brilliant scripts I’ve come across in the comic genre," he adds.
Significantly, this time writer-director Anees Bazmee will not direct his own script.
"This is a rare occasion when Anees is not directing his own script," he adds. "I also get to work with my nephew Arjun Kapoor. We play chacha-bhatija in the film."
