After Rockstar, Ranbir and Imtiaz Ali to make a comedy

September 04, 2012 12:11 IST

Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz AliNews of Ranbir Kapoor and director Imtiaz Ali getting together for an encore to Rockstar has been doing the rounds for some time now.

Now, we have a confirmation from someone closely associated with the project that the two are indeed coming together for a film, to be produced by Sajid Nadidawala. They have convinced A R Rahman to join them even though he's seriously pressed for time.

"Initially, Nadiadwala roped in Ranbir and Imtiaz for a sequel to Rockstar," says the source. "But neither the actor nor the director was enthused by the idea of leaping into angst-laden journey of the traumatized musician again, at least not at the moment."

We hear the new film will be a comedy and will go on the floors early next year.

Apparently, after Rahman completes his work for Yash Chopra's upcoming film, he will move on to Aanand Rai's Raanjhanaa before heading back to Los Angeles. Ranbir and Imtiaz have convinced Rahman to spare some time for their film as well.

Says our source, "Sajid Nadiadwala will first start a film starring Tiger Shroff in October, and then Two States with Arjun Kapoor in December. Leading ladies for both films have yet to be found. Then, Sajid will move to the Ranbir-Intiaz-Rahman project."

Rockstar's leading lady Nargis Fakhri has been left out of the core team.

Says our source, "An established leading lady -- probably Katrina Kaif or Anushka Sharma -- is likely to be cast in this project."
