Datta, who designs only men's wear, will design Abhishek Bachchan's wedding outfits when he gets married to Aishwarya Rai. Ash's mother Brinda assigned her the job.
Datta tells Priyanka Jain what to expect Abhishek to wear when he gets married.
What kind of outfits are you designing for Abhishek?
Since it will be a big wedding, Brinda will need many pieces of outfits to gift Abhishek, and other members of his family (men's wear only). I will be designing clothes for Abhishek. I cannot tell you more than that.
How will you style his outfit?
It's a traditional ceremony, so the cuts and style will be traditional. The clothes will be classy, aristocratic and special.
Will the outfits have a Bengali theme?
There is nothing called Bengali designs. I have taken inspiration from Indian culture. You can wear a sari the Bengali way. But men's wear like the sherwani, achkan, amrakha and shawls are just called Indian traditional wear.
How many pieces are you designing for Abhishek?
I keep sending outfits. There is no fixed number. They order, and accordingly, I send clothes phase by phase.
Are you going to use any specific colours?
They have left all that to me. I have been given the freedom to choose the colours.
Abhishek is a handsome boy, young, tall and well-built. I don't find any difficulties designing for him. He will look good in all colours. I can use anything except black, as that is not an auspicious colour.
Have you designed for Abhishek earlier?
I had designed some clothes for a film where Abhishek was playing a Bihari, wearing dhoti and gamchha. In a film, the designer is like a supplier of clothes. So I just gave him what the script needed.
Is there a deadline for his outfits?
There is no deadline. Even if there is one, I can't tell you.
