After spending six days in the hospital, Amitabh Bachchan was discharged on Friday morning.

On his 66th birthday [October 11], Bachchan was rushed to Lilavati hospital in Mumbai after he complained of intestinal problems.

After undergoing tests it was found that Bachchan was suffering from abdominal problems for which he was treated for the same.

On day one of his admission, Abhishek had told reporters that his father "will be admitted in the hospital for the next 48-72 hours." He also thanked all of his father fans and the journalists for their support.

The wait however took longer that what was expected. In the meantime, Bachchan was put on a liquid diet.

As a result of the hospitalisation of one of Bollywood's biggest stars, the shooting schedule of the entire Bachchan family has suffered a setback.

Abhishek and his wife Aishwarya were supposed to be in Kerala for Mani Ratnam's film Ravana as also Bachchan, who was to shoot for his film Teen Paati in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the family were in for some bad news when Aishwarya's father, Krishna Raj Rai, was admitted on Wednesday night to Mumbai's Hinduja hospital, after he fell seriously ill.
