February 16, 2006 21:14 IST

Telugu actress Aarti Agarwal was admitted to hospital on Thursday morning after she fell from the balcony of her home and suffered a severe head injury the night before.

Doctors at the Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, say she was operated to remove a clot in her brain resulting from the fall. Terming her condition as 'critical,' they add that she has been put on a ventilator. The actress is unconscious and her condition is being closely monitored. Another CT scan of the brain will be taken on February 17 to ascertain her condition.

Agarwal, who hails from Gujarat, has acted in over two dozen Telugu films, with almost all top heroes in Tollywood. She made her debut in the hit Nuvvu Naku Nacchavu, opposite Venkatesh, and continued with chartbusters Nuvvu leka nenu lenu, Nee Sneham, Bobby, Indra and Vasantham. At the time of the accident, she was acting in the film Andala Ramudu.

Last year, the actress had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming toilet cleaning liquid, following the failure of a reported affair with a co-star.
