The Bombay High Court admitted a petition against Amitabh Bachchan [Images] for allegedly violating anti-tobacco laws in Goa [Images].
The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), a Goa-based anti-tobacco group, filed a criminal case against Bachchan after a huge poster showing him with a cigar in his mouth was displayed on the state's highway.
The poster was from the film Family, put up by Anchor, an electric appliances company. NOTE had initially filed a case in the court at Panaji, who had issued notices against all the accused. All accused, except Anchor, challenged the issuance of the notices before the sessions court.
The sessions court allowed the challenge and quashed the order against all, except Anchor. This order of the sessions court was challenged by NOTE before the High Court by way of criminal revision petition.
