Megastar Amitabh Bachchan [Images] has hailed Mumbai police for acting swiftly in nabbing the culprit who sent him a death threat on his mobile.

The SMS threat sent to the actor in Hindi said, "Mahanayk. Mare jaoge. Only 3 De jinda. Rahane ki kimat Amitabhji. 25 cro." [Mahanayak (Amitabh), you'll be killed.Price for remaining alive for three days 25 crore].

"I received this on my mobile while I was in London [Images], but since I was travelling the same day, I asked my office to inform the police," Bachchan wrote in his blog. "Investigations began immediately and the person was traced and as per the police information, proceedings have been initiated," he said.

"The police authority in charge of the matter informs me that he is a person from a city in Rajasthan who claims to be a lookalike of Abhishek. He had been around the sets of Drona when it was being shot in Rajasthan and has been making claims that he worked in a small role in the film which when I verified is false," the actor said.

Neither Abhishek or Goldie, the director have met or had any contact with him.

"This guy states that he has been in touch with our family; this is completely false. We have never met him. He claims to have got a response to a birthday greeting he sent me. I try and respond to fan mail that wishes me," the actor said.

"The police told me he came to Mumbai at the time of Abhishek's and Aishwarya's [Images] wedding and that a leading tabloid allegedly paid or employed him to pose as Abhishek and set up circumstances or a sting, as these episodes are commonly referred to these days, so that he could find entry to Aishwarya's residence, just before the wedding," Big B [Images] said.

"He succeeded in reaching inside the premises of the apartment building and even went up to her flat, unfortunately for him and fortunate for Aishwarya, the wrong one, before he was apprehended. That particular tabloid covered the whole incident as did the electronic media," Bachchan said.
