A Hindu organisation has sought a ban on the release of the Hollywood film Love Guru which, according to them, portrays the guru-disciple relation in an 'objectionable' way.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti -- which has been running a campaign against M F Husain [Images] as well for portraying Hindu goddesses in a 'vulgar manner' -- has taken up cudgels against the Hollywood film, which is slated for release on June 20.

'We are surprised and shocked, as Love Guru, which is likely to release in India, is dead against the Hindu culture, moral and ethics, which are required to be preserved and particularly in the relation between guru and disciple,' said the organisation in its letter to Central Board of Film Certification.

The organisation has also sent a letter to Goa [Images] Chief Minister Digamber Kamat requesting him to stop the film's release. The film's trailer released by Paramount Pictures showed 'utter disrespect' for the spiritual significance of the guru by making the character a cheap and funny one which evokes laughter at the revered institution, convenor of the outfit Shivaji Vatkar said.

The letter notes that in the trailer it also depicts the guru as the second best in India. "India has revered saints such as Swami Vivekanand, Ramakrishna Paramahans and Yogi Arvind. This film will denigrate these saints and gurus," the convenor alleged.

Besides, violence cannot be ruled out for such 'sinful act', notwithstanding any caste, creed or religion, he added. The outfit has said that permission should not be granted to release such films, at least in India, as it will hurt religious sentiments of millions of Indians and who follow the guru-disciple principle.
