Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's [Images] fans, who went berserk targeting actor Rajasekhar, surrendered before the police on January 29 but claimed that they did not assault the actor.
The fans, residents of Kukatpally in Hyderabad, gave themselves up before Punjagutta police, a day after the incident evoked widespread condemnation across the state including from the megastar himself.
Talking to reporters at the police station, Ganesh, one of the alleged attackers, said they followed Rajasekhar's car from Secunderabad railway station, where the actor disembarked from a train along with his wife and children, to seek an apology from him.
Ganesh claimed that they did not attack Rajasekhar and the actor himself hit a lorry at Punjagutta after driving his car in the wrong route in a state of panic.
The actor came under attack for allegedly insulting Chiranjeevi, who is said to be planning to join politics.
To a query, the alleged attackers said they chased Rajasekhar on their own and that there was none behind their action.
Asked whether they are registered fans of the superstar, they replied in the negative. Their lawyer said a bail petition would be as per the procedures of law.
Rajasekhar and his family members were allegedly attacked by Chiranjeevi's fans at Punjagutta on January 28 following the former's controversial remarks against the mega star.
Meanwhile, Rajasekhar's wife Jeevitha said the attackers should be brought to justice to ensure that such incidents did not recur. She sought a directive from Chiranjeevi to his fans not to indulge in acts of violence in future.
Condemning the incident, Chiranjeevi drove to Rajasekhar's residence and apologised to him in the presence of the media.
