Amitabh Bachchan seems to have refused to get embroiled in the controversy involving Raj Thackeray and has decided to keep quiet about it. Bachchan is currently in Shimla, shooting for Shoojit Sircar's Shoe Bite.
When rediff.com tried to contact his residence for a statement, the only response we got was that there was no official statement or release from the Bachchans.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray said at a political function on Friday, that though Bachchan has become a superstar in Mumbai, his heart is more inclined towards Uttar Pradesh.
'Though he has become a star in Mumbai, his interest is in Uttar Pradesh,' Thackeray is quoted to have said. 'That is why he was trying to be an ambassador of UP rather than Maharashtra.'
He added that the Bachchan family was more interested in building a school in Uttar Pradesh in the name of their daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai [Images] rather than in Maharashtra.
Jaya Bachchan gave her reply in a press conference, 'I don't know who Raj Thackeray is. The only Thackeray I know is Balasaheb Thackeray, who is like a father to me and his son Uddhav Thackeray. I don't know any other Thackeray.'
Taking another dig at Raj, Jaya added, 'I heard and read in the papers that Raj Thackeray owns huge property in Maharashtra and at Kohinoor Mills, Mumbai. If he is willing to donate land, we can start a school in the name of Aishwarya here.'
