Aamir Khan, whose directorial debut in Taare Zameen Par won him much acclaim, said he just wanted to make good films to entertain moviegoers across the country.

"The audience wants something new and different," said Khan, who was in Chennai to receive the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Endowment Award for the best debutant director. "This encourages us to handle different subjects. It is the film and not the star that pulls crowds to theatres and contribute to the success at the box office."

Pointing out that many directors had experimented with different subjects, Khan said, "In Indian cinema, whether it is Hindi or any other language, the primary objective is to entertain people. It is neither to educate people nor to bring social change. Perhaps cinema can play a secondary role as an educator or of social reformer."

When asked about his next film, Khan said he was yet to decide on it. "I don't have any specific subject right now. But I am looking for a good story, which will give the best to the audience," he replied.

He announced that Taare Zameen Par [Images] would be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. The dubbed versions, Val Nakshatram in Tamil and Neelamedha Tharalu in Telugu, will be released on September 12 and distributed by entertainment company, Pyramid Saimira. "Many parents and teachers had written to me to dub the film in Tamil and Telugu for the benefit of children. I would like to dub the film in all Indian languages," he explained.

Tamil actor Surya has lent his voice for Khan's role in the Tamil version.

Khan, who usually doesn't attend any film award functions, said he agreed to receive the Gollapudi award out of respect for the organisation. The annual award will be conferred on August 12.
