After working with Shah Rukh Khan [Images] and Aamir Khan [Images], Ashutosh Gowarikar now wants to work with Salman Khan [Images].
"It's a long cherished dream to work with Salman Khan. As soon as I find a script which suits his image, I will approach him," Gowarikar told PTI at the World Kids International Film Festival held in New Delhi [Images] recently.
The director worked with Aamir in Lagaan [Images], which was nominated for Oscar, and with Shah Rukh in Swades [Images]. The director, who is known for making period and issue-based films, is trying his hand on comedy for the first time in his upcoming film What's Your Raashee?
"I am trying to do something different in the film, which is a romantic comedy," says Gowarikar about his latest film, starring the Love Story 2050 couple, Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra [Images].
Though Harman's debut film sank without a trace at the box office, the director is all praise for his performance in the film. "I signed Harman because he suits the character in What's Your Raashee?. Besides, I liked Harman's performance in Love Story 2050. He is a great dancer too," says Gowarikar.
The director also feels that Priyanka's talent as an actor has remained underutilised so far in the film industry. "She is a good actor but I think she has a lot more to offer," he said. "I am trying to bring something special out of her in my next venture," he says.
Gowarikar's What's Your Raashee? is based on a Gujarati novel Kimball Ravenswood, written by noted author Madhu Rye.
"This film is a challenge for me, as it is very difficult to make a comedy. But I like to face new challenges," says the director. The director says that old comedies directed by veteran filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee are his all-time favourite films. "I am a big fan of Hrishida and Basuda. I love to watch Jyoti Swaroop directed Padosan again and again. That's my favourite comedy film," he says.
Asked whether the director has any plans to return to acting, Gowarikar replied, "Right now, I am not really interested in acting. But I will consider acting provided a good character is offered to me."
