Seenna Thaana 001's album is frivolous

Seena Thaana 001 directed by T P Gajendran is the remake of the Malayalam superhit comedy caper, CID Moosa. The film has actor Prasanna, who made a mark with films like Kanda Naal Muthal and Azhagiya Theeyae, and Sheela in the lead.

Music is by Deva whose composing outing has become sporadic these days.

The album starts with the title track Seena Thaana with an intro song rendered by Tippu. Dr Krudhiya's lyrics, a medley of Malayalam, Tamil and English describe the hero in superlative terms like 'superman', 'superstar' etc. Tippu's full-throated rendition is in his usual bouncy and energetic style. The composer has tried to embellish the piece with mild hip-hop, short swara segments, extra sounds and impressive rhythm.

The following Acha Acha Ladki Hai rendered by Arjith is a frivolous number. Prasoodan's lyrics, a mocktail of names of Hindi actors, singers, music directors, and lines from Hindi film songs tempered with a Telugu phrase is downright silly. Deva's composition has a Hindi film music touch and at times a reworked feel. Guitar and mandolin delineations are the instrumental highlights. Arjith sounds like Udith Narayan, but fortunately, minus the latter's stilted Tamil diction.

Karthik and Harini go on a melody route in Unnai Partha, which comes next. Yugabharathi's lyrics are about the lovers, who at a glimpse of the loved one forget themselves. Cascading sheets of veena, flute and mandolin notes as prelude and interludes, and swara-based chorus towards the end provide added fillip.

Porikki Payalae by Suchitra is a brisk-paced hot number. Suchithra's effortless open-throated rendition and added frills of hip-hop, mild rap and agile percussion makes this a potential disco favourite. Snehan's lyrics are full of sensuous innuendoes.

With Deva around, can gana be far behind? The concluding Unnai Onnu by Sabesh and Grace beginning with a playful chorus is a flippant gana track. Though in the racy genre with Laksmipriyan's suggestive lyrics picturising a domineering female and her servile counterpart, this is a drab track meant perhaps to titillate the front benchers.

In a nutshell, a frivolous album.
