Former Indian captain Kapil Dev [Images] defended Shah Rukh Khan's [Images] presence at cricket matches, saying that the association of a celebrity like him would popularise the game.
He added that Shah Rukh was a cricket fan and watched the fifth ODI between India and Pakistan because of his sheer craze for the sport.
The cricket legend came in defence of SRK [Images], when the latter announced that he will never watch cricket matches in stadiums because of the comments made by some BCCI officials.
SRK: I will not watch a cricket match in future
"Like any other cricket buff, Shah Rukh took time off to watch a match, and there's nothing wrong with that. If the Prime Minister of India comes to watch a match, it's a great thing for cricket," he said. "Shah Rukh is known for his movies, and if he has a chat on his film, I don't think it's wrong."
Kapil said that a star like Shah Rukh did not need to use a cricket match to publicise his film. "Shah Rukh is already a popular personality through his films. Does he need cricket to popularise himself and his work?"
On a lighter note, Kapil Dev talked about his favourite film actors. "Dev Anand [Images] was my childhood hero," he said. "In my younger days, I liked Amitabh Bachchan [Images] and Dharmendra [Images]. Now I like Hrithik Roshan [Images] and Shah Rukh."
Kapil, however, refused to list his favourite heroines. "Yeh nahin bataoonga, aapko bura lagega (I will not tell that, you may feel bad)," he concluded.
