Many know the spiritual Rajni, the man he is in his personal life. It was a movie that kindered spiritualism into this star and that movie was Sri Raghavendrar.

Rajni had completed 99 movies and he wanted to record the life of his spiritual guru on celluloid. He approached his mentor K Balachander to make this movie for him. Balachander, who had also directed Rajni's first comedy, thus made his first spiritual movie. But fans who had always seen him as this larger than life superstar, rejected this movie. They simply could not accept their star ending in a samadhi.

But when Rajni was recently asked to list his favourite movies, this was on number one.
