After his debut in Jithan, Jeeva's brother Ramesh is back in Vincent Selva's Madurai Veeran, which also stars Saloni, the heroine of Salman Khan's flop film Saawan.

The film has music by Srikanth Deva (except the opening track by Joshua Sridhar) and lyrics by Vijayasagar, Kabilan, Pa Vijay and director Perarasu.

The six-track album kicks off with Yadhava theru rendered by 'Gana specialist,' Gana Ulakanathan. The ballad begins with an aggressive hip-hop beat, which then settles into a good rhythmic style. The lover sings about his sweetheart 'who resides in a house near a bunk shop on Yadava street,' whom he 'hopes to marry after her graduation.' The chorus towards the end adds vigour to the track. Vijayasagar's lyrics are quite simple.

Following this we have a Nee thanadi, a wistful number with a faint Illayaraja touch. Kabilan's lyrics speak about the lover's pangs of separation and how the memories crush him. The guitar and flute swirls and Harish Raghavendra's highly impressive rendition makes this melodious number very appealing. However, there is a little bit of rehashing here and there.

Up next is Mudhal mudhalaga, which has meaningful lyrics by Pa Vijay. Good rhythm and good instrumentation are other highlights of this melodious piece. Shreya Ghosal's honeyed voice is marred by her lisp -- 'nensodu nensodu' instead of the correct 'nenjodu nenjodu' makes you squirm.

Uyirum uyirum by Senthilnathan and Suchithra Raman is short and sweet. This number, in the same genre as Nee thanadi, is a melodious piece with very good instrumentation. It begins and concludes with guitar and flute strains accompanied by a lively chorus at the end. Suchitra's voice has a soft lilt and depth to it.

Lovers crazy in love is what the next track is all about. Kaalaiyum neeyae by Srikanth Deva and Fefi Srikanth is a joyful number with good rhythm, moderately fast beats and a slight western touch in between. Pa Vijay's lyrics are impressive.

Srikanth winds up the album with the peppy foot-tapping Nyokka mokka vibrantly rendered by the composer himself with Senthildas and Priyadarshini joining the fray. This is a crowd-pleasing sizzler with racy orchestration in the kuthupattu-gana combo genre. Lyrics are by director Perarasu who debuted as a lyricist in the Vijaykanth starrer Dharmapuri.

A reasonably good album.
