Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986)
Starring: Mohanlal, Shari, Thilakan and Vineeth
Director P Padmarajan
What the film is about: Mohanlal falls in love with his new neighbour Shari. But Shari has her share of problems -- her father has died and her mom has married again; this time to a good-for-nothing, villainous character (Thilakan) who has an eye on Shari.
Mohanlal in a bid to protect her offers marriage but not soon enough...
This movie is based on Malayalam novel Nammukku Graamangalil Chennu Raappaarkkaam written by K K Sudhakaran.
Why it should be remade: We have seen lots of bold Hindi movies but a film on the complexities of a stepfather-stepdaughter relationship is quite a different take. It is not that these do not happen in our society and the issue should be brought to light in every possible language.
The perfect Bollywood cast: Saif Ali Khan (Mohanlal), Om Puri (Thilakan), Kareena Kapoor (Shari). Could be directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.
