Actor-director Parthipan's idea of a commercial film is to load it with perversion and sadism. He has done this before and has sometimes found success at the box office. However, with a string of flops in the recent past, it appears the director is desperate for a hit. He has gone overboard with Pachakuthirai, exposing Namitha to the hilt to bring in crowds. The result is you walk out of the theatre with a nauseating feeling as well as some sadness. After all, this is the director who gave us films like Puthiya Pathai and Housefull. Pacha is a street rowdy who derives pleasure from the sorrows of others. He doesn't like anyone to be happy and creates trouble to makes everyone miserable. He happens to meet Poovu, the bride ( Namitha) at a marriage function. He stops the wedding by telling a lie about the bridegroom being married five times before. Left alone at the altar, Poovu agrees to marry Pacha. Though Pacha loves her a lot, she soon realizes that he is a man without virtues. She deserts him and goes back to her house. Pacha manages his own funeral and finds that the entire slum is celebrating his death. This comes as a rude shock to him. He turns over a new leaf. How he gets accepted by the slum dwellers as a do-gooder forms the climax.
Right from the opening shot, where the hero pinches a little tot because the kid is laughing, the film has scenes that are repulsive. Half the film deals with the lovemaking between Parthipan and Namitha. But one must give credit to Namitha who, exposing aside, has put in a good performance. The music and cinematography too are below average.
Definitely a film to avoid.
