Aamir Khan tied the knot with Kiran Rao at a simple civil ceremony at his residence in Bandra, a Mumbai suburb, this evening.
The ceremony, which was attended by the star's family and close friends, did not see the presence of any major Bollywood stars, except for Rani Mukerji [Images]. Other invitees included Kunal Kapoor [Images] (Aamir's Rang De Basanti [Images] co-star) and Amin Hajee (Bagha, from Lagaan [Images]).
A Dalvi, a registrar from Mumbai Marriage Bureau, confirmed that the wedding took place at 7 pm. The witnesses to the wedding were family members.
Although Aamir -- dressed informally in a t-shirt and cap -- left his residence a couple of times during the day, he refused to speak to the reporters gathered outside. He appeared to be overseeing the arrangements. The couple, along with the family and friends, will leave for Panchgani, about 300 km from Mumbai, where they will usher in the New Year with a series of parties.
This is Aamir's second marriage. He divorced his first wife Reena Dutta in 2002.
Aamir met Kiran when she was assisting Ashutosh Gowariker during the making of Lagaan.
After the Panchgani parties, Aamir and Kiran will go to Bangalore, where Kiran's parents will host a reception for them.
