'We would talk so much'

rediff.com Entertainment Bureau | July 28, 2004 19:06 IST

Comedian Jagdeep remembers his colleague and friend Mehmood who died on July 23 after a long illness.

I remember him as an old companion, co-star, and wonderful friend. I had done a film called Dhobi Doctor [in 1954] by Phani Mazumdar, where Mehmood was a child star. That was his first film. Kishore Kumar was the hero of the film.

When Mehmood became a star, he gifted Phani a Fiat car. Such was the greatness of the man.

Remembering Mehmood
There was a time when we would go to Johnny Walker's house and spend our evenings together. We would talk so much and have lot of fun.

Mehmood and I have done many films together. I have always liked him as an actor and human being. He was jolly and was a very good serious actor as well.
