Anil in a patriotic role?

M Chhaya in Kolkata | June 17, 2003 16:15 IST

After 1942 -- A Love Story, Anil Kapoor may again be seen in a patriotic movie.

Anil KapoorKapoor has reportedly agreed to sign Bengali producer Prosenjit Chatterjee's Hindi venture Vande Mataram, set in pre-Independence India about an uncompromising freedom fighter.

Chatterjee, still a popular actor in Bengali films, will meet Kapoor in Mumbai next month to work out the shooting dates, which seem to be the only problem in this venture.

"We thought of Anil Kapoor because he suits the character of the freedom fighter in the story best," said Chatterjee, who is hoping to make a mark in Bollywood as producer.

"The script is ready and we need to sit down with Anil to work out the final details," said the producer who has roped in Amitabh Bachchan for a yet-to-be-named Hindi film to be directed by Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh.

Once the dates are finalised, shooting for Vande Mataram will begin in West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Kapoor last shot in Kolkata for Sudhir Mishra's Calcutta Mail in 2001. Seventeen years ago, he had shot in the city for M S Sathyu's Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaye.

Chatterjee hopes Ghosh will direct Vande Mataram as well.
