The International Film Festival organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images will turn competitive this year to encourage Indian participation in the international film festival circuit.
"India produces 900 films every year, but very few manage to reach the international film festival circuit. The competitive section for Indian feature films is being introduced to encourage Indian participation at the international level," filmmaker Shyam Benegal says.
"Fifteen films will be selected from all languages, including those made in English," he adds.
A five-member international jury, headed by noted filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, will select the award-winning films.
The last date for submitting entries is August 30.
The festival will be held in November in Mumbai.
