Vivek making good progress: Hinduja doctors
July 22, 2003 17:14 IST
Actor Vivek Oberoi, who developed lung complications after an operation on his fractured leg following a mishap during a film shooting recently, is making 'good progress', hospital sources said in Mumbai on Tuesday.
"Vivek's condition is improving and all necessary precautions are being taken," Dr Sanjay Agarwala, the orthopaedic surgeon, who operated on the actor, said.
Vivek had suffered serious fractures in his leg during a shooting in Kolkata last week and had been admitted to Hinduja hospital for a leg surgery. He was later shifted to ICU following pain and shortness of breath.
Doctors suspect that fat from the bone marrow had entered the blood stream and had filtered through the lung causing breathlessness. "As of today he is making good progress and he has no plaster immobolisation nor crepe bandage," he said.
"His wounds are drying and healing well. He is able to mobilise his legs and we anticipate he will ambulate, lung condition permitting," the doctor said in a statement.
Vivek had been put on an oxygen mask after he complained of difficulty in breathing. "However, he had never been put on a respirator," he clarified.
The actor's chest x-ray post-surgery had showed changes, suggestive of acute lung injury, triggered by fat embolism or trauma.
