Madan Mohan's music is excellent and Mohammed Rafi's emotionally charged rendition of Main yeh sochkar brings a lump to one's throat.
The huge star cast of Balraj Sahani, Vijay Anand, Dharmendra (then a newcomer) perfectly justifies each character they play. The performances by supporting cast members like Mac Mohan and Sanjay is worth a watch.
Directed by Chetan Anand, the story deals with India's defeat from China in 1962. It is one of the few movies where defeat is the highlight. Because in the defeat lies the roots of sacrifice and courage. The last song Ab tumhare hawale watan sathiyon, written by Kaifi Azmi, leaves a lasting impression and reminds you of your duty towards nation. The photography in the difficult terrains holds you spellbound. The dialogues are earthy and simple.
It is a must watch patriotic saga.
