Balakrishna in fatigues?

Vijayalaxmi | April 30, 2003 15:28 IST

Award winning actor, and son of late Telugu superstar and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao, Balakrishna will play an upright military officer in his next film.

The yet-untitled venture, under the banner of Aditya Productions, was launched at Ramakrishna Studios in Hyderabad. The launch was witnessed by thousands of his fans.

"The film is about an officer who is ready to stake his life for his country. It has all the regular masala ingredients," revealed the superstar, even as he waved his hand to silence his fans who had jammed the traffic with their fireworks.

"We were definitely inspired by my father's Bobbili Puli," said Balakrishna. He added that many of the film's war scenes would be shot in Kashmir.

Debutant director, Swarna Subbarao, has signed Simran and Boomika to play Balakrishna's love interests in the film. Seasoned composer Koti will be responsible for the music.

"I wanted to make a powerful film only with Balakrishna," claims industrialist-turned-producer Konda Krishnamraju. The film's shooting, he added, would commence from last week of May.

This is the first time in his 25-year-old career that the superstar will act as a military officer.
