Rugged-looking Irfan Khan, the Indian protagonist in The Warrior, Britain's official entry in the
Oscar's foreign language film category, is currently basking in the soft warmth of his new found fame even as he crosses
his fingers hoping the movie would at least make it to the nominations at the prestigious award function.
"Even if the movie, made in Hindi, is nominated in the foreign language film category award, I will consider it a feather in our cap," a modest Irfan said.
"Ever since the film made it as an official entry, I feel reassured of my capabilities, of my aesthetic sensibilities. Right to the way I conduct my life," said the actor who plays the lead role of a warrior in the film.
Khan, a reputed television artiste, approached UK-based director Asif Kapadia after he was informed that he was looking out for an Indian artiste to play the lead role. Khan, who had always been advised to constantly be in the page three columns of newspapers and glossy magazines, finally appears relieved that his belief that good work is finally spotted has turned out to be a beautiful reality.
"My weapon has always been my work and all my efforts to concentrate on good work has finally paid off, sans all efforts to build public relations," he adds humbly.
The film, shot in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, is not set in any specific period and is a fable film.
