Who is Heeba Shah?Mahesh Dattani Director Mahesh Dattani debuts with his first feature film, Mango Souffle.

The director introduces this talented actress: "Whenever I call her, I ask her about her hair. Why? Because she had to have her hair straightened for Mango Souffle, and her hair is very strong. The perm is supposed to last for six months. Let's hope it does. Heeba heard about the auditions I was holding for my characters from my assistant Rashmi. When she came in, I didn't think she would do well. She seemed very unassuming and meek. The character [of Dipali] is quite vibrant and strong. I explained the part to her and Ankur [who plays Kamlesh, the main protagonist]. They sat together and read the scene that I handed out to them. After a few questions, they were ready. Within seconds of switching on the camera, I knew I had something exciting here. I have had three schedules of rehearsals with the cast. Heeba is a thorough professional. She is punctual and committed as an actress. She appears soft-spoken but has a sense of humour that appears at the most unpredictable moments. She throws herself into the part easily and takes direction quite spontaneously. What I like most about Heeba is that she has made it on her own. She doesn't use her father's name to go places. She got the part because she worked at it. She is a skilled actress. I can tell Heeba has a lot of talent. As told to MD Riti
