They just won't let up. Relatives of revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh had earlier filed a petition against five Hindi filmmakers making films on the martyr.
Filed by Paramjit Kaur, the petition alleged that the films distorted historical facts. The High Court turned down her plea for to stay the films' release, but issued notices to the concerned film producers, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the chairman of the Censor Board of Film Certification. The filmmakers were also asked to appear in court on June 12.
A division bench at the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the petitioners to file another affidavit listing the distortions in the films. "We will file a fresh affidavit by Thursday June 13," counsel Sandeep Bansal told rediff.com after the hearing from his Chandigarh residence.
Meanwhile, Ministry for Information and Broadcasting and the Censor Board representative Gurprit Singh denied any distortion of facts in the films. The counsel for both Vijeta Films [producers of 23rd March 1931 -- Shaheed], and filmmaker Ramanand Sagar were present in court. No legal counsel represented Rajkumar Santoshi [director of The Legend Of Bhagat Singh].
