Raveena-Vinod
Vinod Khanna's day off from politics with Raveena
On the sets of Shrabani Deodhar's film

Priyanka Nair

Today is Vinod Khanna's day off from politics.

He is back to where he began --- in films --- albeit only for a short while. The actor-turned-politician is now devoting his time to fulfilling the last few film commitments he had made to his friends in the film industry.

One of the films he is shooting for is Raveena Tandon's Reel Life Production No 1. Sporting a white embroidered Lucknowi kurta-pyjama, Khanna plays a lawyer in the film. "Both I and Raveena are lawyers in the film. She plays my daughter-in-law. It is a fantastic story," declares Khanna.

Shrabani Deodhar, who is directing the film, is ready with the shot. The actors are asked to take their positions.

Raveena Tandon prepares herself for some tears with glycerine drops --- the scene is very emotional. She plops herself on one of the couches next to Sudhanshu Pandey, who plays her husband in the film.

When Shrabani calls for action, Khanna and Rati Agnihotri run down the stairs of their home, wanting to know why their daughter-in-law is upset.

Tandon tells them her best friend has committed suicide: "Swati was my best friend. She committed suicide because she was depressed."

Khanna consoles Tandon, "Depression has become a killer disease today."

Shrabani signals the shot is good. Khanna says, "No, no. You have to to tell us okay if the shot is done well."

Tandon butts in, quipping, "The shot is okay but needs one more take."

There is curiosity about who will play Tandon's friend. Will it be Sonali Kulkarni who mentioned in a recent interview that she would be acting in the film? "Sonali was keen doing the film but had to opt out because of date problems," says Preeti Sinha, coproducer of the film. "Getting combination dates was a real nightmare. Vinod Khanna is now a minister and we had to match his dates with that of the other stars which was quite tedious."

"We intend to complete the film in a 45-day schedule with one big schedule in October," says Sinha.
