MOVIES Subi Samuel's studio in suburban Andheri is a riot of colour. Bright blue walls, bricks painted lime green, walls in shades of red and sunshine yellow. "It's just something my assistants and I painted together," says the soft-spoken photographer who has carved a niche for himself over the last four years. An exhibition of Subi's photographs, his second, called 2 The Soul will be shown at Mumbai's Regent Hotel from April 23. The exhibition which he has been working on for six months, comes as a sequel to his first exhibition The Soul. "Faces that fascinate me," says the shutterbug who also holds a management degree from the Mumbai's prestigious Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. "Photography began as a hobby. After I completed my post-graduation, I was still undecided about pursuing it full time. I was to join dad's business; I was treading on very thin ice then. In 1994 I began assisting [photographer] Rakesh Shrestha, and in 1998 I set shop myself." He has come a long way since. He has to his name prestigious commercials, fashion shoots and films like Raaz, Sirf Tum, Aditya Chopra’s next Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi, Hansal Mehta's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, Sanjay Gupta's Kaante and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas.
2 The Soul showcases some of the best known names and faces of the film industry in pictures that have never been seen before. And Subi promises the visuals would present the stars in avatars never seen before.
