In its push to become the third biggest smartphone maker, Sony Corp. has unveiled a new flagship smartphone called Xperia Z1.
The phone has a 5-inch full HD display (a resolution of 1920 x 1080) and a 2GB RAM. Though the company has not announced pricing of the phone, it won’t come cheap considering that the predecessor Xperia Z cost about Rs 37,000 in India.
Xperia Z1 does stand against the competition and offers its own unique set of features to the users. These include the sleek design, water and dust proofing, and the high-resolution camera with a large sensor.

Build & Design
The phone design is similar to that of Xperia Z but Sony had made some changes to make Xperia Z1 look for premium. For example, the company has added an aluminium band on the edges.
Sony continuous to keep its flagship device waterproof and dustproof - you can submerge the phone in water up to 1.5 metres.
Unlike in the past, Sony has made the earphone jack waterproof so that the user doesn’t need to undo it every times the chord needs to be plugged in.

Display
The phone features Triluminos Display which creates a wider palette of colours and offers makes the screen looks sharper.
It also includes X-Reality for mobile - Sony’s super resolution technology which analyses each image and optimises the quality to deliver super sharp videos.

Under the hood, the phone has 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. It’s the same chip that powers LG’s G2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Onboard memory is 16GB and with a memory card, it can be expanded to 64GB.
To keep the powerful processor running through the day of heavy use, Xperia Z1 comes with a 3,000-mAh battery.
Though launched along with Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Sony runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Galaxy Note 3, on the other hand, runs latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Camera
The rear camera boasts of a whopping 20.7 megapixels resolution and features award winning ‘G-lens’. It’s a 27mm wide angle lens with an aperture of F2.0. This means, the camera can capture better low-light photos and also the images are much sharper.
The camera software further features timeshift burst that can capture 61 images in 2 seconds.
There is an exciting feature of the camera called Info-Eye, which is a visual search function. When you capture a building, book or wine, this software provides related information on them.

Walkman & Movies app
The phone comes pre-loaded with Sony’s Walkman and movies apps, which provide access to more than 22 million songs on the Walkman app and on the movies app, the user can access more than 150K movies and TV series from Sony Entertainment Network.
