The electrifying super sports car Audi R8 from the stable of the legendary German auto-giant, Audi AG, is finally out in a fresh avatar.

Characterised by exciting mechanical tweaks and cosmetic upgrades, the facelift is something that its admirers have been anticipating for some time now.

And why not? After all, it's been more than six years since Audi AG introduced the R8 (launched in 2006) and a revamp was overdue.

On Wednesday, the carmaker launched the next generation Audi R8 in Delhi. Smarter, faster and classier than before, this new version comes in three alluring variants - R8 V8 Coupe, R8 V10 Coupe and R8 V10 Spyder.

While the price for the 2013 R8 V8 Coupe is Rs 1.34 crore (Rs 13.4 million), the R8 V10 Coupe and R8 V10 Spyder have been tagged at Rs 1.57 crore (Rs 15.7 million) and Rs 1.73 crore (Rs 17.3 million) respectively.

While the transmission systems for the newly-revised series seem to have undergone some major changes, their power-mills remain pretty much the same.

Powering the high-end V10 models of 2013 R8 Coupe and Spyder is the same 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine, capable of pumping out a top 518 bhp for a peak torque of 530 Nm, that propelled their preceding versions.

As far as the lower-end R8 V8 Coupe is concerned, it too borrows its 4.2-litre V8 FSI power-house from its predecessor, which can churn out a maximum of a 424 bhp for a maximum of 430 Nm of torque.

Audi R8 V8 has 18-inch 235/40 wheels at the front and 285/35 at the rear, while the V10 variants for the sports car move about on 235/35 wheels employed for its front and 295/30 wheels employed for its rear end, featuring diameters of 19 inch.

As for the rear profile, besides a fresh R8 logo, the new circular style of tailpipes and dynamic turn indicators are the only major modifications.

The interior upgrades for the 2013 Audi R8 range include a new aluminium touch for the shift paddles that is larger than before.

Other than that, the needles on the instrument console have been given a new styling while the headlining has been blessed with classy diamond stitching.

To accentuate the feel of luxury within the seating area, designers have sprinkled the chamber with plenty of chrome that goes extremely well with the fine Nappa full-leather seats.
