Tata Motors launches revamped Sumo in Pune

Tata Motors on Thursday launched its revamped version of multi utility vehicle (MUV) Sumo as Tata Sumo Gold in Pune.

It is available in four variants GX, EX, LX & CX priced at Rs 5.23 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Pune). It has BSIII and BS IV 3.0 litre diesel CR4 engine, delivering 85 PS power which is also available in turbo engine.

The vehicle is being manufactured in the company's Bhosari plant.

The Sumo Gold will replace the existing Sumo Victa.

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has claimed that the mileage for the Sumo Gold is 14.07kmpl.

Speaking on the launch of the multi utility vehicle Sumo, R Ramakrishnan, vice president, commercial -- PCBU, Tata Motors said, "We have improved the engine performance of the vehicle.

It is a result of extensive consumer studies and field tests.

"The product has been designed to fulfil various requirements, long-awaited by the new generation customer.

"It has a growling engine that thumps out vicious power.

"It goes a step ahead in putting the reins of power in the customer's hands, by letting him choose from two powerhouses, that suits his driving experience, delivering the best-in-class acceleration, power and an excellent torque aided pick-up and pull power."

Last year, Tata has sold around 18000 Sumos and this year around 10,000 vehicles till October 2011.
Sumo has a 15 per cent market share in the MUV segment. The company is exporting the Sumo to SAARC countries.

This is Sumo's sixth upgraded model since its first launch in 1994. Currently, the company is running two shifts at its Bhosari plant.

The changes include renewed front grill, wide rear with a clean back and a spare wheel below the cabin, larger wheel base, tail lamp cluster and high power forward and rear fog lamps.

Sumo Gold will compete with Mahindra and Mahindra's Bolero and the upcoming Chevrolet Tavera BS IV.
