Nissan to discontinue sales of X-Trail SUV and 370Z coupe

Japanese auto-maker Nissan on Monday said it will discontinue sales of its popular SUV X-Trail and 370Z coupe in India as the company is focusing more on localised manufactured models.

Nissan currently imports X-Trail and 370Z coupe as completely built unit.

"The move comes in the wake of Nissan's decision to focus on its locally manufactured models." its Indian subsidiary, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd, said in a statement.

It further added: "The company plans to concentrate on products tailored for India and delivering more value along with world class quality to its customers."

However, the auto market will continue to sell the Teana luxury sedan in India, NMIPL said.

"In India, Nissan has been constantly expanding its innovative and exciting product range, and will continue to deliver cutting-edge technology, distinctive design and a rewarding experience to all its customers," said NMIPL.

Nissan is launching its Datsun brand in the country. 

At the recently concluded Auto Expo, Nissan had said the first model, Datsun Go, a hatchback in the under Rs 400,000 price band, would be ready for bookings next month.

NMIPL currently sells --  Micra Active, Micra, Sunny, Evalia and Terrano -- in the Indian market, all manufactured at its Oragadam, Chennai facility.

Earlier this month, the auto maker had terminated its agreement with Hover Automotive India for exclusive sales, marketing and distribution of Nissan branded vehicles and parts in India.

Without specifying reasons, the company in a statement had said NMIPL has assumed full responsibility for the sales, marketing and distribution of all Nissan-branded vehicles and parts in India, with immediate effect from February 14, 2014.
