Auto sector posts mixed results

Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Tuesday reported a 7.6 per cent dip in total sales at 50,518 units in June 2014.

The company had sold 54,665 units in the same month last year, it said in a statement.

In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 33,514 units last month as compared to 30,610 units in June 2013, up 9.5 per cent.

During the month, Hyundai's exports declined by 29.3 per cent to 17,004 units as against 24,055 units in the same period last year.

Commenting on the sales performance, HMIL Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said the growth in the domestic sales has been due to the success of Xcent, Grand and Santa Fe.

"With the extension of excise duty benefit, we hope to maintain the growth in volume while strengthening our product portfolio and improving channel efficiencies," he added.

Maruti registers 33% increase in sales

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported a 33.5 per cent increase in its total sales for June at 1,12,773 units as against 84,455 units in the same month last year.

The company said its domestic sales rose by 31.1 per cent during the month to 1,00,964 units as against 77,002 units in June 2013.

Sales of mini segment cars, including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, rose by 52.1 per cent to 47,618 units as compared to 31,314 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz rose by 6.2 per cent to 22,293 units in June this year as against 20,996 units in the same month a year ago.

MSI said sales of its popular compact sedan Dzire rose by 27.4 per cent during the month under review at 15,990 units as against 12548 units in June 2013.

The sales of company's mid-sized sedan SX4 rose by 2.5 per cent to 322 units in June as against 314 units in the same month last year.

There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month.

Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, rose marginally at 5,003 units in June this year from 4,997 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- increased by 42.5 per cent to 9,738 units in June this year as compared to 6,833 units in the same period of the previous year.

Exports during the month rose by 58.4 per cent to 11,809 units as compared to 7,453 units in June last year, MSI said.

Mahindra & Mahindra sales rise marginally in June

Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday reported a marginal increase in total sales at 38,471 units in June.

Mahindra & Mahindra had sold 38,092 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement.

M&M's domestic sales also rose marginally at 36,457 units last month as against 36,207 a year earlier.

Sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV 5OO, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 16,780 units compared with 17,232 units in June 2013, down 3 per cent.

Four-wheel commercial vehicle sales rose by 3 per cent to 14,138 units in June 2014 as against 13,761 units in the year-ago month, it said.

Exports rose 7 per cent to 2,014 units from 1,885 units in the same period a year earlier.

M&M Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah said: "The recent announcement by the government of an extension in the lowering of excise duty will provide a fillip leading up to the festive season."

General Motors sales dip 21% in June

General Motors India on Tuesday reported a 21.33 per cent decline in total sales for June at 5,172 units.

It had sold 6,575 units in the same month last year, General Motors India said.

June 2014 sales include 1,776 units of Beat, 1,249 units of Tavera and 987 units of Chevrolet Enjoy.

General Motors India Vice President P Balendran said: "Customer sentiment continues to remain negative even with price reduction on account of the continuation of the excise duty cuts till the end of this year".

Going by the market scenario, the company expects the challenging times to continue as the general economic conditions have not improved, he added.

"The buoyancy in the market is still missing and we don't see any sustained market upturn till the new government presents a growth-oriented budget to boost the overall economy," Balendran added.

Unless structural bottlenecks ease and economic fundamentals improve, the market is unlikely to turnaround in the short term, he added.

Toyota Kirloskar sales dip 3%

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Tuesday reported a 2.97 per cent decline in total sales at 13,394 units in June 2014.

The company had sold 13,805 units in the corresponding month of previous year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said.

In the domestic market, TKM sold 12,010 units in June 2014, a growth of 9 per cent as compared to 11,010 units in June 2013.

During the month, the company exported 1,384 units of Etios.

Commenting on the sales performance, N Raja, Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing), said the newly launched Corolla Altis and Etios Cross have been well accepted by the customers.

"We received more than 5,400 total booking orders for Etios Cross and more than 3,000 for Corolla Altis," he added.

The company is working to reduce the waiting period for both the car models, he added.

Honda Cars sales up 75% at 16,316 units

Honda Cars India on Tuesday reported 75 per cent increase in domestic sales at 16,316 units in June.

It had sold 9,297 units in June last year, Honda Cars India Ltd said in a statement.

During June this year, the company sold 1,438 units of its small car Brio, 7,075 units of sedan Amaze and 7,723units of the premium sedan City.

Besides, it sold 80 units of sports utility vehicle CRV.

In addition, the company exported a total of 739 units during the month.
